Tetra Tech is actively seeking a creative, mid-level Mechanical Engineer for immediate employment in either our Ann Arbor or Detroit office (will also consider hiring in Atlanta or Orlando). In this role, you will be the technical specialist in the application of advanced theories, concepts, principles or processes for mechanical systems for Industrial, Commercial, Wastewater and Water facilities. Designs include system expansions and total replacement; modification of existing buildings and facilities; and new facility construction. The candidate should have an understanding of the interaction of their proposed design with other engineering disciplines and the integration into an existing system. Some of the tasks include:
Full Technical responsibility for interpreting, organizing, executing and coordinating assignments and managing projects from small to large in scope both simple and very complex.
Developing plans and specifications for projects with unique or controversial problems that have an important effect on major organization programs which involves exploration of subject area, definition of scope and selection of problems for investigation and development of novel concepts and approaches.
Reviewing and editing construction specifications in MasterSpec and Specs Intact format. Also, the ideal should have experience editing specifications in other formats.
Assist in the development of department standards and procedures.
Assist in mentoring the design activities of junior engineers and designers to verify that quality controls and project criteria are met and within budget. Delegate these activities and train less experienced staff.
Assist in reviewing contract bidding and administration Perform construction administration duties including but not limited to: Responding to contractor RFIs, reviewing shop drawings, and construction submittals, performing construction site field observations reports and preparing punch lists during various stages of construction.
Registered Professional Engineer.
Applicants must have a minimum of 6 years of experience. 8 to 12 years of experience is desirable. Individuals with additional experience that meet the requirements below will also be considered and are encouraged to apply.
Management experience in operations, maintenance, estimating, layout, analysis, and planning for industrial, municipal, and commercial facilities.
Experience in the design of boiler facilities and systems for chilled water, cooling towers, and compressed air.
Experience with HVAC systems for commercial and industrial applications from rooftop air handlers to industrial ventilation.
Experience with reverse osmosis (RO), ultrafiltration (UF), and other membrane water and wastewater treatment systems.
Experience with pumping systems, blower systems, multi-media filters, inclined plate clarifiers, pH neutralization systems, chemical feed systems, and other treatment systems commonly used for water and wastewater treatment is preferred, but not required. However, the successful candidate will be expected to support and assist process engineers in the design of these types of systems.
Experience generating and coordinating Process and Instrumentation Diagrams (PIDs) for industrial clients and applications.
Knowledge of ICC building codes, UFC building codes, ASHRAE design manuals and guides and USGBC LEED and be able to apply those requirements specifically for new or existing building projects.
Experience with client meetings and interaction with client during the conceptual design, final design, construction, and commissioning.
Hands on experience in the facilities engineering field for the operation and maintenance of the facility's mechanical systems including: heating and cooling systems; hydronic systems; boilers; chillers; cooling towers; compressed air systems; and related piping and pumping systems are a plus.
Experience with QA/QC, construction cost estimating, and value engineering for mechanical projects.
Scientific writing skills and ability to format reports in Microsoft Word with figures, tables, etc. for professional presentations to a client are a must.
The applicant should be proficient with or be an advanced user of the following engineering design software:
Trane Trace 700 for load calculations and energy modeling preferred, but considerable experience in other platforms such as Carrier HAP, EnergyPlus, or EQuest is also acceptable.
Autodesk REVIT releases 2013-2015.
Autodesk AutoCAD 2013 or newer.
Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office products and ability to manipulate spreadsheets with macros, functions, etc.
