# Mechanical Engineer Lead/ Mechanical Engineer Senior
## Responsibilities
Provide engineering services in support of planning, operation, maintenance, optimization, troubleshooting and repair of complex facilities and utilities systems.
Provide engineering support to the various maintenance and skilled trades groups to troubleshoot mechanical and HVAC problems.
Provide mechanical engineering support to operations units for utilities distribution and the power plants.
Conduct engineering studies and develop recommendations and plans for alterations and corrections to facilities and utilities systems on the basis of energy and maintenance efficiency and condition, operational life cycle economy and plant development needs.
Perform or lead energy audits, efficiency studies and funding requests. Utilize various analytic and quantitative methods to evaluate operation of existing and new systems and estimate implementation costs.
For larger engineering projects provide lead engineer project coordination, and help manage in-house support staff and consultants.
Provide critical reviews of project design and construction documents provided by consultants or other units of Facilities and Operations, and participate on design teams.
Execute or supervise the execution of smaller project estimates, plans and specifications.
Provide or supervise mechanical design for smaller system improvements and capital renewal. Advise engineers, designers and consultants on methods and materials to be used on repair, renovations or capital projects.
Utilize an existing Building Automation System to gather and analyze operating data in order to evaluate and make improvements to operating HMAC systems.
Perform or lead mechanical systems commissioning and recomissioning. Supervise field-testing where required and make evaluations and recommendations based on the results.
Join other University engineers in developing standards for design and construction. Support and participate in safety programs.
Participate in a collaborative process for improving, implementing and maintaining a comprehensive Reliability Centered Maintenance program.
## Required Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Considerable knowledge and progressively responsible experience in mechanical engineering for facilities mechanical and utilities systems.
Demonstrated creative problem solving skills; excellent written and oral communication skills and strong interpersonal skills.
Demonstrated familiarity and understanding of larger utilities systems and energy management.
Experience with Building Automation Systems and control of HVAC systems.
## Desired Qualifications
Registration as a Professional Engineer in the State of Michigan.
Over 10 years experience in mechanical engineering for facilities and district utilities.
Extensive experience conducting cost avoidance studies, district energy planning studies, energy management, maintenance and operations methods, mechanical systems commissioning and development of standards and guidelines.
Deep expertise in the use and design of Building Automation Systems.

## Additional Information
The potential salary range for the Senior position is $75,000.00-$85,000.00 annually; the potential salary range for the Lead position is $83,000.00-$100,000.00 annually.
