## Job Summary
Working Title: Environmental Health and Safety Specialist
Note: The starting classification level will be determined by the applicant''s qualifications and years of relevant experience.
Provide industrial hygiene and occupational safety services to University of Michigan organizational units. Services include: health, safety, and environmental review of laboratories; investigating safety and health related complaints; performing emergency responses for hazardous materials which may include biological, chemical, or radioactive substances.
Prepare and submit detailed reports to department managers for corrective action to be taken or maintenance to be performed. Take appropriate follow-up action. Prepare special and periodic reports, guidelines, manuals, newsletters, summaries, and bulletins. Respond to inquiries from staff and faculty regarding occupational health, safety, and environmental concerns. Develop, coordinate, and conduct occupational health and safety, education and training programs.
## Required Qualifications
A Bachelor''s degree in occupational health, safety, chemical sciences, or a related scientific or engineering field.
Professional experience in public health, occupational health and safety or other appropriate science-related field of study (i.e. chemistry) is required.
Reasonable knowledge of modern occupational health, safety, environmental, or engineering principles and practices, and rules/regulations.
Extensive knowledge of OSHA & MIOSHA rules and regulations.
Knowledge of and ability to use computer applications, such as word processing, email, and databases.
Work independently, exercise initiative and judgment, and provide follow through with customers.
Must have a valid driver''s license and ability to obtain commercial driver''s license may be necessary.
Must be able to pass physical examination to allow for emergency response and wearing of personal protective equipment (PPE).
Excellent written and verbal communication skills and interpersonal skills.
Ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects.
OSEH Representative II (Senior level) Required
Qualifications:
Same as above with 3 - 5 years of experience in occupational health and safety or other appropriate science-related field of study is required.
## Desired Qualifications
A Master''s degree in occupational health, safety, chemical sciences, or a related scientific or engineering field.
Some experience in program development and EHS project management.
Work experience consistent with that required for applicable professional certification such as Certified Industrial Hygienist or Certified Safety Professional.
## Work Schedule
M-F daytime hours. Additional work hours may occasionally be required during nights and early mornings, and weekends to respond to emergencies or other time sensitive/critical events and to provide training for employees.
## Underfill Statement
This position may be underfilled at a lower classification depending on the qualifications of the selected candidate.
The pay range for the Intermediate level is $46,600 - 69,800.

The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
