Position
Responsibilities:
Teach grades Preschool through 8th approximately 10 contact hours per week; with total weekly hours of 20 hours per week.
Provide a stimulating, creative, and appropriately challenged or appropriately differentiated educational environment, including opportunities for children to develop cognitive, social, emotional, and physical skills.
Use best practices regarding student-centered instruction, collaboration, and authentic assessment.
Leading and managing all aspects of the classroom.
Provide regular and thorough communication to all SK constituencies (students, parents, and colleagues); Support enrollment and retention by assisting with tours, events, and other school outreach; and Collaborating closely with the other teachers in the school to vertically align coursework between grades above and below.
Practice clear, timely, and professional communication with students, parents, and colleagues.
Serve as a role model in maintaining appropriate standards of care for students and maintaining healthy boundaries in student and professional relationships.
Attend professional development opportunities with reflection on instructional practices.
Attend weekly staff meetings and other meetings as requested.
Integrate creative activities for students to compose music.
Utilize music composition software and technology in the curriculum.
Organize and direct two all-school concerts per year (Winter/Spring).
Prepare occasional Friday morning presentations.
Perform other duties as directed by the Head of School About Summers-Knoll School SK prides itself on knowing kids well, due to low student-to-teacher ratios and small school size.

Ideal candidates will demonstrate, at a minimum, the following:
A valid Michigan Teacher Certificate.
Bachelor's Degree or higher with a music concentration.
A passion for working with young people.
Experience in project-based teaching practice.
Strong philosophical alignment with progressive practices.
A valuing of the outdoors as part of a Preschool - 8 education.
Strong writing, speaking, and listening skills.
An ability to deal with ambiguity; a problem-solving mindset; generosity of spirit; a team mentality and a sense of humor.
Prior successful teaching experience in a project-based and progressive school environment is a plus but not required.
Physical Requirements Ability to work in an office environment / outside environment.
May require extended time outside of school for events or projects.
COVID-19 vaccination is required.
