Summary:
The William L.
Clements Library seeks to hire two Digitization Technicians for a project to digitize the Henry Clinton Papers (approximately 13,208 items).
The papers include letters, documents, other manuscripts, and printed materials largely pertaining to Henry Clinton's military service as second-in-command (1775-1778) and commander-in-chief (1778-1782) of the British forces in North America.
Although the bulk of the papers cover his tenure as commander-in-chief, with particular attention to engagements in New York and New Jersey and the sieges of Charleston and Yorktown, they also document Clinton's efforts to restore his reputation after the war, and to some extent, his personal life.
The digitization technicians will work closely with the curator of manuscripts to perform in-house digitization and create descriptive metadata.
The technician may also assist in creating HTML introductory pages, and other descriptive writing tasks.
Responsibilities Perform in-house digitization under supervision of curators Complete post-processing functions such as color correction and cropping Enter metadata for digital objects to spreadsheets Track project status in a shared Trello board and spreadsheets Write promotional articles and other related tasks Required Qualifications Master's degree or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
Strong organizational and time management skills, ability to meet deadlines and track progress.
Ability to complete detail-oriented procedures accurately and efficiently, with attention to detail.
Knowledge of the Windows operating system and Google Drive documents and spreadsheets Ability to work independently and collaborate with others as part of a team.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Desired Qualifications Previous work experience with digitization of archival materials and/or handling of fragile and rare materials.
Experience working with library metadata standards, image file formats, and image editing software.
Experience working in a research library setting.
Interest in and knowledge of American Revolutionary War history.
