Upon intake this involves data entry, insurance verification/authorization, obtaining and reviewing the required medical documentation, and effective communication with the patient.
CPAP II Technicians are responsible for providing education to both new and existing PAP patients and will help customize the equipment to ensure safe and effective therapy that encourages patient compliance.
They strive for complete patient satisfaction.
QualificationsFormal on-the-job training as a PAP fitter/educator at either an accredited HME Provider or a PAP Industry Manufacturer.
Current respiratory therapist or registered polysomnographic technologist.
At least twelve months of recent experience with PAP equipment that directly involved routine fitting and education of patients.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities Triage phone calls and walk-in requests for PAP equipment and related supplies Perform necessary intake functions:
receive physician orders and request additional medical documentation as needed Enter patient demographics, insurance information and notes into the HME documentation and billing software.
Investigate insurance coverage and obtain prior authorizations as needed Ensure required paperwork is completed Schedule and perform new patient set-ups Educate patients on the safe and appropriate use of PAP equipment; provide an advanced level of education to patients as needed Fit patients with an appropriate mask and accessories; adjust equipment as prescribed; resolve complex equipment issues and patient needs Coordinate delivery of replacement PAP equipment Promote patient compliance with PAP therapy:
perform necessary compliance downloads, counsel patients as needed to increase compliance, coach CPAP Tech I and HME Techs in assisting patients to achieve comfort and compliance with their PAP equipment, primary resource to troubleshoot complicated non-compliant patient issues Interact with physician offices and other healthcare professionals to coordinate care Help maintain adequate inventory on-hand Clean returned PAP equipment and test to ensure proper function; perform minor repairs as needed Handle cash and other monies according to Department/Hospital policies Comply with all federal, state, insurance and regulatory agency policies and requirements Other Functions and ResponsibilitiesPerforms other duties as assigned.
