SummaryThe Michigan Medicine Laboratories (MLabs) Process Improvement Specialist provides support to the MLabs Operations Manager and the MLabs division by identifying and facilitating operational improvements both within the division and those that require coordination with other divisions including Anatomic Pathology, Clinical Pathology, Finance and Administration, and Pathology Informatics.
The desired impact of this position is to focus, prioritize, and expedite PDCA process improvements in the MLabs and inter-divisional work units.
MLabs Process Improvement Specialist will review currently known opportunities and identify additional areas for review.
This position will work closely with the Operations Manager and receive assistance from the MLabs Project Manager to facilitate process improvements to increase efficiency and improve quality of pre- and post-analytic phases of laboratory services provided by Michigan Medicine Laboratories to internal and external clients.

1 Match on retirement savings Responsibilities Coordinate and collaborate with Department of Pathology supervisors and other staff to ensure compliance with MLabs policies and procedures and to respond to related client and laboratory concerns through coordination with Specimen Processing, Laboratories, Pathology Informatics, and Billing to maintain and improve the quality of care provided to patients.
Conduct investigations of designated Patient Safety Reports and provide summary of incident to appropriate Laboratory Operations Manager(s) or Client Liaisons for follow up.
Leverage investigations to recommend specific process improvements.
Gather, analyze, and interpret data to measure the effectiveness of existing business processes and develop sustainable, repeatable, and quantifiable business process improvements.
Collect and analyze process data to initiate, develop and recommend business practices and procedures that focus on enhanced safety, increased productivity, and reduced cost.
Assist Operations Manager with Salesforce case and other data analysis for continuous quality improvement.
Assist in developing and producing Salesforce reports and dashboards to identify opportunities for education and intervention.
Collaborate with others within and outside of the division and department to assist in review of these reports and other requested metrics.
Implement standard processes to regularly and systematically mine Salesforce CRM and other data for continuous quality improvement.
Support laboratory staff and improve client support through identification and resolution of system issues.
Coordinate and collaborate with Department of Pathology and MLabs staff to identify and facilitate process improvements.
Assist with development and management of MLabs Quality Assurance Program, e.
g.
, root cause analysis and resolution of reported errors, incidents, and concerns.
Work collaboratively with MLabs Operations Manager and other staff to assist in development and review of written MLabs policies and procedures.

Required Qualifications In order to be considered for this position the applicant must have met or will have met all the required qualifications prior to the start date of employment.
Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Demonstrated commitment to Service Excellence.
Experience applying continuous process improvement principles and practices.
Demonstrates critical thinking and analytical skills to understand root cause issues and how best to display information that is useful in creating opportunities for clinical improvement.
Ability to work with a diverse group of people in a diplomatic and effective manner with demonstrated problem solving and conflict resolution skills.
Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills with an emphasis on customer service.
Desired Qualifications LEAN training.
Experience working in a clinical or reference laboratory environment and/or Medical Technology degree or equivalent.
Possess or acquire an understanding of the specific workflow related to the delivery of pathology services to both internal Michigan Medicine and external outreach clients and clinicians.
Experience with Salesforce CRM software.
Experience with hospital (EPIC) and laboratory information systems (SOFT) Work ScheduleThis full time, 40 hour position is on the day shift, schedule will be, Monday-Friday, 8:
00 am - 5:
00 pm.
Work LocationsDepartment of Pathology, MLabs, NCRC to include flexible / hybrid staffing model.
This position requires onsite work with an option for working remotely part of each week as job responsibilities allow.
Background ScreeningMichigan Medicine conducts background screening and pre-employment drug testing on job candidates upon acceptance of a contingent job offer and may use a third party administrator to conduct background screenings.
Background screenings are performed in compliance with the Fair Credit Report Act.
Pre-employment drug testing applies to all selected candidates, including new or additional faculty and staff appointments, as well as transfers from other U-M campuses.
